I can think of a few reasons for easy bruising of the skin. First, in the elderly the skin gets thinner so burising is more likely. Women tend to bruise easier than men due to greater blood vessel (capillary) concentration in the superficial skin. Some medications , particularly the type of steroid known as glucocorticoids such as hydrocortisone, Medrol, Prednisone, Dexamethasone etc. can lead to easy bruising. Low platelets or other clotting defects can do this. Certain endocrine diseases in which the adrenal glands make excess steroid like Cushings Syndrome is another possiblity.
Hope this gets you started figuring out what the issue is for you. As always, consult your physician for any treatments or diagnosis. My comments are purely for educational purpose only.
