8 Foods That You Should Eat Everyday

As a health conscious person, you may find yourself focusing on certain nutrients in your diet. At the supermarket, you may say to yourself: “I shouldn’t buy that-too much saturated fat”. Or after grabbing that box of cereal: “Nice, 5g of fiber per serving”.

Although keeping nutrients in mind is important, sometimes we can forget about the way we get nutrients: food.

It can be downright confusing to eat based solely on nutrients. Science is imperfect. Research studies with conflicting results are being published all the time. One says Vitamin C helps prevent colds while another says that it makes no difference. It’s hard to make sense of that information.

It’s much easier to know which foods are especially beneficial to health and try to include them in your diet regularly.

Without further ado, here are 8 foods that you should eat everyday (with a description of health benefits as opposed to a list of nutrients):

1. Salmon-Reduces heart disease risk, improves depression, alleviates chronic pain, aids in weight loss, burns fat.

2. Old Fashioned Oats-Lowers cholesterol, decreases appetite, decreases colon cancer risk.

3. Berries-Lowers risk of Alzheimer’s disease, improves heart health, reduces cancer risk.

4. Broccoli-Reduces risk of cancer, decreases risk of diabetes, lowers blood pressure.

5. Beans-Aids in weight loss, reduces cholesterol, reduces risk of cancer.

6. Tea-Fights cavities, increases metabolism, helps prevent certain cancers.

7. Nuts-Lowers blood pressure, decreases risk of dying from a heart attack, decreases appetite.

8. Flaxseeds-Controls blood sugar, decreases cholesterol, reduces risk of certain cancers.

By emphasizing these foods, it makes your daily diet picture very clear. Even dietitians don’t count calories or grams of saturated fat eaten in a day. It’s frankly too much work. We are all very busy nowadays.

There is certainly the argument to be made that by viewing certain foods as especially healthy it makes it seem “OK” to indulge in other unhealthy foods. Although this may be true for some people, after including these foods in your daily diet, it doesn’t leave much room for ice cream and donuts. For many, these foods make their bodies feel so healthy and good that they are somewhat turned off by unhealthy foods.

If you aren’t already, start adding the foods from the list to your daily diet. You’ll find yourself vibrant, healthy, and disease resistant-without having to use any math.
