I am so glad to know there are others out there who have the EXACT same problem. I am 28 years old, 5'8 and about 105 lbs. I have tried so hard to gain weight. I eat ALL the time and nothing. I gained weight when I was pregnant with my two kids, but still didn't gain as much as I wanted to. After they were born, within a month, all the weight came off. I feel bad complaining to friends about weight gain when all of them are trying to lose weight. I get tired of being asked if I have an eating problem or if I am anorexic. I don't feel like I look good in cute outfits because I feel way too skinny. I am about ready to go see a doctor because the weight is starting to scare me. I think something may be really wrong. I exercise some, but if I do too much cardio i lose even more weight. I don't know what to do. I think my bones are going to start popping out soon...

I agree with you!!! I'm 5'6 and I weigh 115 right now, but the highest my weight ever been was 130. I loose weight like that too. That's why I tries to eat all day to keep my weight up! My weight flutuates when I'm stressed as well... I mean I hate it! I want to stay one size... I don't like looking muscular skinny. I want to fill great about my size and fit my clothes. How to cure this?? Anyone? Don't tell me proten because that's extra muscle mass I don't need.

I am 5' tall, 22 yr old and weigh 83 lbs. You think 97 lbs is bad? I don't feel sick, everything is fine, I eat 3 squares a day, but exercise daily ( cardio + core training ) I can not for the life of me, gain a pound. I went on vacation and ate out 2 meals per day for a week , came home and got on the scale to read that i weighed ounces more than I did the week prior. I know I can stand to gain a few lbs. Just so that I would look better in a bikini, shorts. i have a figure though. thats what I don't understand. I am thinking of going to me PCP and having her test me for hyperthyroidism. alot of the symptoms fit my case.
the best advise I can give you right now is to just love the body you can change it. Face it, there are women who would kill to have our problem. haha. Be Thankful I guess!!

Its great we all have the same problem, but stop telling us about each individual case and let someone post ideas and solutions instead...I just read each reply hoping to find answers and instead got 7 sob stories and one legitimate idea/solution

Hello my name is amanda, and I would like to say a few words to you! I was always tall and very thin. Im only 15, and I have been called anorexic and all that stuf!! I have never had a eating disorder, and there is nothing wrong with me so there is nothing wrong with you! If you gain any weight you might find yourself feeling wierd because your not use to it. I gained 25 pounds within the last year and I feel HUGE haha. I am 5'7 and I was 90 pounds and now im 5'7 and 125 pounds. I felt so wierd that I found myself trying to lose weight and I even almost wanted to kill myself because I felt so fat. I didnt have any problems, and when i looked in the mirror everyday I looked the same so i thought i was crazy lol. The best thing for you to do is be happy with your body and the way that it is. If you force yourself to gain wieght you will be unhappy in the end at times. Some people though feel rather good when they gain weight. your body will not be use to the weight though, and it takes time to feel cumfy with your new look and the feeling.

Hi Amanda, I know exactly what you are going through. I was very skinny when I was a kid and teenager and I was teased and called names because of my size. I would not get caught dead in shorts because I did not want anybody to see my skinny legs. When I got out of high school and got a job I spent a lot of money on weight gaining products and muscle building programs, I turned to anybody that offered a miracle. Nothing worked. When I got in my mid 20s I finally found something that worked great. I accepted myself like I am and I stopped caring what other people thinks. I made up my mind that being skinny is not going to keep me from enjoying life. In warm weather I started living in shorts, I wore them everywhere I went. I got plenty of comments from people on how skinny my legs were but I learned to laugh at myself and go on. It was not a bad experience at all. Amanda this is very important, DON'T let your size and shape keep you from enjoying life. Having skinny legs is nothing to be ashamed of, there is not one reason in this whole world that you can't wear shorts and skirts today and be happy. Shorts and skirts are extremely comfortable and you have got every right to enjoy them, I strongly encourage you to start wearing them in public. You will love them. You need to have the attitude that you are doing something for yourself and if anybody don't like how you look they can keep their eyes off of you. If you get any teasing from your friends about your legs being so thin the best thing you can do is to laugh at yourself and show them that nothing they say bothers you. I can tell you from experience, that will work well. If anybody says something ugly don't respond to them, just walk away and ignore them. Do not under any circumstances let them ruin your day. Don't let nothing or nobody bring you down. I know you feel bad about not being able to get a job in law enforcement because of your weight, I don't know what to tell you about that. I know you are capable of finding another career that you will enjoy and do good at. Good luck to you.

23 yr old, male, somewhere in the 5'8-5'10 range. highest I've ever hit is 115, think I'm usually around 105-110. People say 2000 calories should maintain my weight, 2500 to gain weight. Most I've tried was ~3000 calories a day, w/biking to work, and other light exercise. Had 5000 calories one day, but felt rather sick the next. Seems like just boosting caloric intake doesn't do anything. Nowadays I'm usually walking instead of biking, and down to probably 2500/day (at least one 1300+ calorie meal a day), and just don't deal with scales. Basically I just decided I didn't wanna go through with anything extreme like trying 5000 calories for a week or something. Worst part is good luck finding pants for skinny guys :-/

Ladies, while you each are blessed by the fact that you do not have an obesity problem, your problem is no less real to you. I recommend calling around in your area (universities, or bariatric physician) and see if a professional can test your resting metabolic rate. If this is not a possibility, get with a registered dietitian or an exercise physioligist that has experience with weight management, so they can estimate your metabolic rate. Next, based on your activity level they can estimate the number of calories you use up in a day (resting metabolic rate, activities of daily living, and exercise). This will give you the estimated number of calories that you use up in a day. Wtih this number, you add 500 to 1000 extra calories per day and you will gain 1-2 pounds per week. It is best to add weight training with this routine so most of the extra weight is in muscle and not too much fat. You will get some of both though. You should get good dietary counsel so you do not get too many calories from unhealthy sources. Also, you do not want to develop bad eating habits. Eventually with your weight gain and added muscle mass, your metabolic rate will increase and your weight gain will stop and you will be at a new, healthy, higher weight. Good luck.

I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM 35 YRS OLD AND WEIGHT ONLY 97LBS. AND JUST LIKE YOU THE ONLY WEIGHT GAINED WAS DURING MY PREGNANCY, WHICH I LOST 3 WKS AFTER GIVING BIRTH. I HAVE HAD ALL KINDS OF TEST DONE, AND THEY ARE ALL NORMAL. MY DOCTOR TELLS ME THAT MY METABOLISM IS FAST, AND THAT IT WILL EVENTUALLY SLOW DOWN WHEN IM OLDER. I WAS IN SHOCK, HOW OLDER DO I HAVE TO GET, 60 AT THAT TIME I AM NOT GOING TO CARE ABOUT HOW I LOOK AND FEEL. MY SOLUTION I DO RIGHT NOW IS DRINK MILKSHAKES AND AT LEAST 6-8 SMALL MEALS DURING THE DAY, THIS INCLUDES BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND DINNER. I SNACK ALL DAY. I ALSO DO STRENTH TRAINING FOR MY LEGS SO THEY LOOK A BIT TONES INSTEAD OF YOU KNOW, SKINNY. MY OPINION IS INSTEAD OF MAKING ALL THESE DIFFERENT WAYS TO DIET BOOKS FOR PEOPLE HOW ABOUT ONE FOR PEOPLE LIKE US AT THE OTHER END OF THE SPECTRUM TO GAIN SOME WEIGHT.
